Military-Connected Students (Purple Star Schools)

A group of three students in school uniforms sit at their desks. The student in the foreground smiles at the camera while the students in the background are writing on paper.

Less than 10% of educators report that they received training on how to support military-connected students (Garner et al., 2014). This series helps prepare school personnel to support military-connected students. You will learn about military culture, the unique challenges that military-connected students may face (e.g., geographic transitions, parental absence, reintegration, and military-related parental injury and death), and existing supports for military-connected students (e.g., the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children, school liaisons, and special education law). These trainings can be completed to fulfill professional development requirements as part of the Purple Star School Program. At the end of each training, you can download a certificate confirming completion. Submit the email confirmation(s) to your designated district representative. These trainings are available at no cost.
